Karnataka

Namaskar!!!

After experiencing the holiday resort of Goa, I feel its time to  see some real India, no hippie gimicky crap in sight! No trance music or Russian bars, just Hindi tunes and authentic Indian cuisine.

This blog post will be written slightly differently, 3 destinations and why/ why not to go there.

Karnataka is a point of interest as it holds many of the most wonderful places of India. The destinations that I have ended up travelling through are : Udipi, Mangalore and Mysore.

Many people travel to hampi and Bangalore, however i like to do my own thing, so have gone off the very well beaten backpacker trail….slightly.

All destinations listed are in the lonely planet 2011, (very out of date by the way) and other travellers definitely are in the destinations I chose, however these destinations seem to be backpacker free, from a glance.

Udipi
Reasons to go
Good thali, good beaches, secluded, festivals
Reasons not to go
Secluded, not much to do, no WiFi in many hotels

Mangalore
Reasons to go
Good thali, shopping, good transport links
Reasons not to go
Nothing to do, quite built up, no beach

Mysore
Reasons to go
Lots to see: museums, temples, factory tours, food, shopping, can walk around the city, not many backpackers.
Reasons not to go
City, takes long time to get there on a bus, not many backpackers
